Transgender Children

I was reading on the Internet that Warren Beatty's daughter, Stephen Ira (in the process of transitioning from woman to gay man),has launched a cyber attack of sorts from his blog, Super Mattachine, on Cher's transgendered son, Chaz. It's not really worth reading. It's a childish, arrogant grab for attention. Stephen Ira thinks very highly of himself, though he has little real world experience to back up this self-assessment. In fact, in the "about the author part of the blog", Stephen states about himself, in third person, no less, "He believes there is nothing more radical than kindness." Perhaps Stephen is not such a radical after all, as his attack on Chaz is not unique to his blog--any person or institution who asserts his or her or its right to hold a different viewpoint is skewered with vulgar, negative, rebellious language. In reading it, I reaffirmed my commitment to my children to not spoil them in any way, either materially or otherwise. I will probably insist that as teenagers they each work for at least one summer in a minimum wage food service job. My husband and I did when we were teenagers--it taught us the value of the dollar like nothing else could. Interestingly, Warren Beatty and Cher dated each other for a while in the early sixties, when Cher was still a teenager. I was not surprised to read this. Warren Beatty has had an active social life, if I may say so politely. Both Cher and Mr. Beatty publicly portray themselves as extreme social liberals, but are they really? Perhaps when it comes to other people's children. Their own children are an exception to their social permissiveness--they have both reportedly had tremendous problems coping with their transgender children's sexual decisions. To be fair, most of us probably don't realize how conservative we really are until we have children. I hope my kids turn out to be humble, honrable, people, who live their lives and let others live theirs as they see fit. I love them so much. Very Truly Yours, Jennifer
