Memorial Day at Disneyland

This past Monday was Memorial Day. Our family observed this holiday by solemnly talking about the U.S. men and women who died while in military service. We also called a friend of ours who is a Vietnam Veteran--though Agent Orange has severely disabled him he, too, is proud to be an American, and is proud to have served his country. It is this country's shame how returning veterans have been treated--DH and I wish we could do more for them.

Also, my mother and I took Little Charles to Disneyland, along with his babysitter, Reyna. He loved it! The Haunted Mansion was a little scary for him though--I didn't think he'd mind, as he'd loved the Pirates of the Caribbean. Maybe next time we'll just stick to Small World and the merry-go-round. We took lots of pictures and had a silhouette made of his profile--there's a little shop on Main Street (the main drag inside of Disneyland) where you can sit and an artist cuts out a silhouette of your profile. I don't think our silhouette looks much like Little Charles, but I suppose it's the thought that counts! LOL

Best Wishes,

Jen

Disneyland! wow!

Ive always dreamed of going there with the children, unfortunately for us it's a huge trip.

I didnt know you were close enough to get their easily, you're so lucky! I bet LC loved it!

Its funny you mention about the silhouette. I remember in grade 4 they did one of me, and I was horrified at my overbite LOL.
I always hated my side profile after that, even from such a young age!

I am certain as LC's features keep developing you will see where each and every one of them came from either you or your hubby.

love to you all!

ps: Is that Reyna holding LC?

Dear Terri,

One day when you come to Los Angeles you can stay with us and we'll all go to Disneyland! You and the kids will love it! It is very nice-I have several clients who work there. They tell me that the night crew consists of 6,000 people! No wonder everything there is so perfect! It's really clean, and well, just perfect. Too perfect for everyday life, but for a little vacation it's a lot of fun. :)

You know, I have similar story to your 4th grade silhouette. When I was in 6th grade I was the artists' model for our art class--everyone had to sketch me. When I looked at some of the pictures I almost fainted--everyone drew me with huge buck teeth! Okay, so my teeth are a little bit prominent, but this was ridiculous! LOL

LC looks a lot like his daddy! Except when he laughs. Then he looks like me! Isn't it fun to see them develop and to recognize yourself and your husband in them? :) *so sweet*

That IS Reyna in the picture! She loves LC so much. I'm so glad. Her own kids are older and they're in El Salvador. She misses them, but says that Carlitos (Little Charles) is her baby too!

Love,

Jen :)

Hi Jen!
It's a deal! lol, as long as you promise me that if your family ever wants to take a trip to Vancouver or the Okanagan Valley in BC, that you'll stay with us as well! =]

I can only imagine how perfect Disneyland is! I think I would totally get stupid in a place that fun..running all over like a little kid myself (and trying to drag you with me?!). hehe.
All kidding aside it would be a dream trip for the children, so perhaps someday we will take you up on your sweet offer. xo =]

I hate to say that I giggled at your story, but it's just so cute because I can totally relate to how you must have felt in that moment looking at those sketches..
I remember getting a caricature done in my 20s and still being nervous enough to say "and make me cute please" LOL! What a dork I am. =]

It is totally fun to watch the wee ones develop our features. It was always amazing to me to watch how the children would take after me for awhile and then their father.
Its absolutley a lovely experience.

You are so lucky to have Reyna as a friend as well as a caregiver!
Aww her children are in El Salvador, that's so sad.. but I can see how much it would be healing for her to have LC around for her to cuddle in their absence. (Im certain from how he's sitting on her hip that he's a cuddly boy anyway! heh)

and awwww "Carlitos" is such a sweet nickname! Thats just adorable!

I'd love to go to Canada! In fact, I was planning to do so this summer, but it'll have to wait b/c work is very busy. Plus, we have just moved and I need to arrange everything in the house and landscape our yard. *weary sigh* It's gonna be fun, but a lot of work, let me tell ya!

So this summer I can only take a very short vacation to visit my mother-in-law in Illinois-we'll go in August to coincide with the State Fair, which is always a lot of fun.

You know, it's a good idea to tell the artist to make you look cute. That's part of the goal, right? We don't want our future generations to think we weren't cute! Whenever I've gotten my silhouette done at Disneyland I've also always told them to make me look cute. I didn't think I'd have to make the same request for LC, who IS cute, but I guess next time I will, b/c 1) this silhouette doesn't look like him and 2) it's not nearly as cute as he is!
But that'll be enough!

You'll love Disneyland. It's not silly to skip through the park! I do it every time I go there--I'm sure one day I'll have to stop b/c LC will be so embarrassed at his mom's girlish enthusiasm! But when you come we'll skip together! :)

I love watching LC develop, especially because he's so much like his daddy, the man I love! My mom says that I'll always have DH around b/c DH lives on in LC! And it's true, they are very similar people, though LC is an individual in his own right. :)

We love Reyna! She's so much a part of our family. We wish she'd come live with us but she has her own house. She's very practical and manages her money well. She rents out rooms in her house for extra income. She loves having LC around--she has pictures of him all over her house.

Love,

Jen
